This kind of architecture is very rare nowadays : indeed there are some “Casere a Gradoni”just in the territory of Sovramonte, Pedavena and in the Prealps of Belluno. This building constructions maybe come from Germany, spread out in the ‘300, when Belluno and Feltre were under the Germanic Sacred Roman Empire.
The Casera was used as a cowshed and barn: its’ peculiarity was the structure of the front, a “gradoni” or “scalinèle.”
The particular conformation was functional for the original coverage in straw, which could have been easily lifted by the wind: the “gradoni” had both the advantage to facilitate the accessibility to the roof for maintenance operations, as well as the protection necessary for side actions of water and wind.
